Room [Jul. 2nd, 2009|09:43 pm]
I'm finally redecorating my bedroom. Today I built a shelf unit thing with the help of Alex's mom and grandparents, and selected paint from the paint store. That took the entire day, so more later. Oh, and there will be before and after pictures, if I remember to take them.

Watching paint dry [Jun. 24th, 2009|08:51 pm]
I've pretty much started a routine where I cycle to the Huntington Beach pier on Monday and Wednesday mornings. It makes sense to get exercise done in the morning then take a shower before going to work. Riding to work is more efficient but I have too much hate for being sweaty and sunscreeny all day.

I plan to keep this up through the Summer. Mondays and Wednesdays are cycling days and Fridays I have yoga. I'll probably lose the desire to go out cycling in the Fall when it gets windy and/or the mornings get just a tad chilly. I can't bring myself to care that I'm being a wuss.

Not to mention that I can't afford to eat like this all year round. According to calorie counting websites, my two hours of cycling in the 10 - 15 mph range burns up over 900 calories, and that doesn't even take into account my heavy mountain bike. I looked it up because it seemed like I was eating twice as much food as I normally do. As it turns out, that's about right. Yikes.

-----subject change-----

Friday is an exciting day because that's the day that I go to Target. Sometimes I don't even buy anything. This week, though, I've decided that I will buy a couple of new pillows.

This is exactly why reading my blog is as much fun as watching paint dry. Pillows! Squee!

I'm taking this week off of oboe and reeds. I'm letting my elbow and wrist rest up, and also, my chiropractor/physical therapist has been working on the painful knots that surround my right shoulder blade. I think I get myself too... tied up... with oboe, in a way that is not good for me. Letting go is an interesting exercise. The Buddhists are right, you know.

Categorized update for minimal reading pleasure. [Jun. 21st, 2009|01:22 pm]
Wind Symphony: I almost like it now, and I probably won't quit. I will still hate sightreading at rehearsal, though.

Bicycle: I rode my bike to work two days last week. I'm thinking about joining a local cycling club. It seems safer to ride with a group. And also, my fat ass is out of shape.

Repairs: Alto clarinet week starts tomorrow. Yay! I'm doing some business with a high school. And also, a girl's mom dropped her Marigaux oboe. :( And, Jonathan's cousin's flute overhaul is done. :) Oh, and I'll do the final check on the Powell piccolo. That damned thing was so stubborn.

Students: are dropping like flies. Two are flaking out because it's summer, one quit, one moved away, and two are left standing.

Reedmaking class: I'm about 80% sure that it will be canceled, because no one is signing up for it.

High schools/junior high schools: I may work this summer to put together an ad/flier to distribute to band directors. I'll probably volunteer to do an oboe and/or flute masterclass at schools in the Fall with the hope of getting more students. I may also put something on there about reeds being available, and maybe even something about woodwind repair work, although I'm not really trying to get thousands of beater horns in the shop that some poor band director wants "repaired" for as little as possible. I'm mainly just worried about my sagging studio. I guess a lot of private teachers are going through this because the economy sucks?

Sleep: I've been sleeping poorly, having weird dreams, waking up tired, and smashing my head/neck/shoulders into the pillow in a way that makes me really sore.

I never could quite get the hang of Thursdays. [Feb. 5th, 2009|10:34 pm]
Today was rough around the edges, and ended with a sight reading of a Sibelius symphony, and I'm not sure how it made me feel. I'm tired. Tomorrow: day off.

The chronicles of how my computer is slowly breaking. [Feb. 4th, 2009|10:30 pm]
The monitor threw a hissy fit today. I rebooted and then it worked normally. I wonder if I'll be so lucky tomorrow.

On the plus side, there is a slight chance that a used laptop may become available to me if this one dies. At least then I wouldn't have to fork over the cash for a new one.

::fingerscrossed::
